This course, backed by the PIC Math program (supported by the MAA, SIAM, and NSF), immerses math majors in industrial research and real-world mathematical problem solving. Students work in teams of 3–5 on semester-long projects provided by external industry partners, with an emphasis on formulating problems from open-ended goals, selecting appropriate mathematical tools, and communicating results clearly.
From the FAU Catalog: This research-intensive course pits students in small groups against real-world problems provided by industrial partners.
Most course business will be handled on the Canvas site. This is an in-person course; class time is largely devoted to group work on research projects, with occasional lectures as needed.
Required Text: None. Readings may be provided by the instructor.
